Built in 1928 at the Burrard Dry Dock Company in North Vancouver. Built for Arctic waters, it was the first ship to complete the journey through the Northwest Passage from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean. In the summer of 1944, St. Roch sailed from Halifax to Vancouver, becoming the first ship to travel through the North Pole region in both directions.
