Groot is an extraterrestrial, intelligent tree-like creature that originally appeared as an invader intent on capturing humans for experimentation. He can only say the repeated line ‘I am Groot’, but the meaning varies depending on the context. Later, Groot was reintroduced as a heroic, noble being and became part of the Guardians of the Galaxy team.
