Dried mealworms are a vitamin-rich and protein-rich supplement that all garden birds love. They are especially good to provide during the breeding season, when birds’ need for protein is greatest.
A dried mealworm consists of more than half animal protein, about one quarter fat, and less than 12% water. In addition to crude ash and fiber, mealworms also contain chitin. This substance is sometimes said to have an antibacterial effect.
