Asterix was created in 1959 by writer Rene Goscinny and illustrator Albert Uderzo. Asterix is
the main hero ; He is small, mustachioed, cunning and strong! Uderzo suggested that they
add a partner, inspired by his preparatory drawings and their shared passion fot Laurel and
Hardy. ‘’do you see a problem if I add a caracter like that? The little buddy will have a very
strong friend’’. And Goscinny approved the idea. ‘’ we will make a menhir deliveryman.’’
They named him Obelix! He quickly became an essential character!
